Red Hawks Sweep Clarkson in Golden Weekend Showdown
Date: Oct 26, 2025

Before their home opener on October 5, 2018, NYU Hockey, an ACHA Division I team, will be playing against the ACHA Division 3 Select team in an exhibition game.
The D3 Select team, coached by Don Headley (Head Coach of Michigan State University’s Hockey Team) and Joe Mazzie (Head Coach of Farmingdale University’s Hockey Team), is composed of 22 players: four lines, eight defensemen, and two goalies. All players were chosen in April after a ten team all-star tournament tryout in Philadelphia, PA.
“The expectation of the players is to compete at a high level and conduct themselves in the spirit of true professionals,” Coach Headley said.
While the D3 Selects hit training camp in Albany, NY, the returning players and newcomers of NYU hockey have been working hard for the last month in preparation for the upcoming season.
“We appreciate the opportunity that Paul Hebert and the ACHA have given us to get a great game under our belt before the regular season begins,” Head Coach of NYU Hockey, Christopher Cosentino said. “I hope we give them a good workout before they travel overseas to proudly represent the ACHA. The game will be a good maturity test for our team at the end of training camp.”
The select team from the ACHA Men’s Division 3 will travel to Krasnoyarsk, Russia in October to compete in the 2018 Student Hockey Challenge International Championship.
“The team looks forward to playing NYU as it is a top level ACHA team and will give us a good idea where we stand as a team,” Headley said.
“I expect the select team will be very good, and it is my responsibility to make sure our players understand that. If we do not respect the talent that they will have, then it will be a long night for us and a reflection of our character,” expressed Cosentino. “I am going to use the exhibition game as an opportunity to build chemistry and try some things out, but most importantly I am going to look at how we prepare, compete and execute for 60 minutes.”
The Exhibition game will be held at Chelsea Piers Sky Rink on Friday, September 28, 2018. Puck drop is at 9:00pm. Come out to support your Violets as they take the ice.
