Date: May 15, 2020
The Leamington Flyers are pleased to announce the addition of 1999 born defenceman Adam Groat.
Adam hails from Wyandotte, Michigan where he played for Wyandotte Roosevelt High School from 2013-2017. He was the captain of the team in the 2016-2017 season and was an all-state honourable mention that year.
Groat comes to the Flyers after playing last season for the 18U Belle Tire AAA program where he won a state championship. In 31 games last season with Belle Tire he registered 2 goals and added 9 assists.
“Justin Solcz, the general manager reached out to me earlier this year saying I should go out to the American Camp, he and my coach at Belle Tire had a long connection. I went there and impressed some people and here we are,” Groat said.
Coming in at 6'3" and 185 lbs Groat will add size and a two-way force to the Leamington blue-line.
“I play a two-way defensive game, I like to get involved offensively but also shut it down in my own end. I'm a big body, I like to be physical and bang some bodies,” Groat said for what fans can expect from his game
Groat is the second Belle Tire graduate to sign with the Flyers this off-season joining forward Cameron Armstrong.
“ I love Leamington, I've been living here for a couple of weeks now, it's a great town, the teammates are great along with all the staff. I'm looking forward to the season starting and hopefully winning a Sutherland Cup with this team,” Groat added.
