WELCOME TO THE 2018 BANTAM NATIONALS
Athletes, coaches, officials and fans kicked off the 2018 Bantam Nationals in Saskatoon today. With six teams from across the country, it is sure to be an action-packed week. This tournament hosts some of the most competitive minor box lacrosse being played in Canada today.
Game 1: Team Manitoba vs. Team Saskatchewan, 9:00am
Manitoba showed everyone they came to play this morning, by scoring the first goal of the tournament within the first minute of play. It was a hard-fought battle in the beginning, but Manitoba’s defense showed their skill by holding Saskatchewan to only 3 goals in the game.
FINAL SCORE: MB 10 vs. SK 3
Game 2: Team Nova Scotia vs. Team Ontario, 10:30am
Ontario proved they are a team to watch in their first game of the day with a 15-2 win over Nova Scotia. Ontario held on to a shut out right through to the third period when Nova Scotia rallied and managed to score 2 goals, but unfortunately, they just could not muster enough to close the scoring gap Ontario opened so early in the game.
FINAL SCORE: NS 2 vs. ON 15
Game 3: Team Manitoba vs. Team British Columbia, 1:30pm
Manitoba came out swinging once again in their second game of the day, but it just wasn’t enough to deter the powerhouse of Team BC as it was the only goal they would score in the game. BC took that goal in stride and played hard to come out with a 10-1 win by the end of the game.
FINAL SCORE: MN 1 vs. BC 10
Game 4: Team First Nations vs. Team Ontario, 3:00pm
The game to watch today was definitely the final game of the day as Team First Nations took on Team Ontario. Ontario took the early lead ending the first period up 2-0. Second period was evenly played with both teams scoring 2 goals for a 4-2 Ontario lead at the end of the second. Team First Nations fought hard at the end of the third bringing the score to within 1 goal, but there just wasn’t enough time left for them to get ahead.
FINAL SCORE: FN 5 vs. ON 6
