LONDON MAJORS AT BRANTFORD RED SOX
Friday, August 3, 2018
by Anne Chamberlain
Another good crowd on hand last night at Arnold Anderson Stadium for the game between the visiting London Majors and the hometown Brantford Red Sox. It was also Strickland’s Night – free admission for the first 250 fans. To those wondering, Strickland has done this for the last few years. Brant Taxi, Leon's, and Express Personnel have also done the same type of promotion this season. It brings new people to the ball park. And I have seen several of them come back for other games.
Anyways, the Sox’s woes on home turf continued. Final score: London Majors 8, Brantford Red Sox 0.
Brantford did have opportunities to score. In the bottom of the 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th innings, they had runners on (2 on in 5th and 6th) but couldn’t bring them home.
Starting Red Sox pitcher, Jose Bautista, got off to a rough start. He did settle down and pitched well for the next 4 innings. When he left the game after the 5th, Bautista’s numbers were 2 runs on 7 hits, walked 3 and struck out 7 on the 25 batters he faced. Matt Betts threw for the 6th & 7th innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out 3. Tanner Guindon came into the game in the 8th, Kurt Horne worked the 9th inning.
Brantford pulled off a 4-6-3 double play which put an end to the top of the 1st inning. Nice work Sox.
