BRANTFORD RED SOX AT BURLINGTON HERD

Brantford Red Sox fans – the wait for a win is over. At Casey Cosgrove Field at Nelson Park today, the Sox defeated the Burlington Herd by a score of 9-2.

Burlington’s Vaughn Bryan opened up the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning with a solo home run over the right field fence. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Herd made it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly. 

Brantford answered back in the 4th inning. Nic Burdett started things off  by being walked to 1st base. DeAndre Asbury-Heath followed with a single which moved Burdett to 2nd. Dan Jagdeo then walked to load the bases for Brantford.  Blake Kauer then reached 1st on a fielder’s choice (Nick Burdett was forced out at the plate). The bases were still loaded when Dennon Koziol came to the plate. He drew a walk to bring home DeAndre Asbury-Heath.  Andris Rizquez then doubled to clear the bases.  Score was now 4-2 for the Sox.

Burlington threatened in the bottom of the same inning but the 4th ended with the Herd stranding 2. In the top of the 5th inning, Jagdeo made it 6-2 on a 2-run home run over the centerfield fence. Kauer added a run in the top of the 7th inning to extend the lead to 7-2. Once again, Burlington threatened in the bottom of the same inning, but once again 2 Herd runners were left on base. The game’s final 2 runs came in the top of the 9th inning. With Burdett on base, Asbury-Heath hit one over the centerfield fence.

Starting pitcher for Brantford, Jose Bautista, was given the win.  Brantford left 7 runners on. Burlington left 9.  There were no errors committed in today’s game.

The Sox visit Bernie Arbour Stadium in Hamilton for a 2pm game on Sunday July 29th against the 4th place Cardinals. Tuesday, July 31st sees Brantford in London for a makeup game against the Majors. The Sox then return home on Wednesday August 1st when the Hamilton Cardinals are in town. Scheduled game time is 8pm.
