Jerome Dupont (Amy Deroche file photo / OHL Images) got a good look at the prospects in the Cobourg Cougars organization during the weekend.

The former NHLer (Chicago, Toronto) was named head coach of the then defending national champion Ontario Junior Hockey League franchise in November.

Both of Cobourg’s entries in the 2018 Ontario Junior Development League took part in the OJDL showcase at Oshawa’s UOIT Saturday and Sunday.

The Cobourg East squad remained unbeaten (6-0-0) through the showcase.

On Sunday, Tyler Challis and Nolan Stevenson had two-goal games in a 6-1 win over Pickering. Jake Newsome had three assists.

Later in the day, they blanked Cobourg West 1-0. Hunter Hutchinson earned the shutout and Newsome scored the goal.

Dupont, whose other coaching stops in the OJHL have included Thornhill, Aurora, Trenton and Orangeville, was at the showcase event. He was head coach of the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL for two seasons.

The OJDL has two five-divisions. Games take place in Oshawa and Trenton in the East and Etobicoke and Oakville in the West.

Games are scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday this week. The season ends June 20.
