The 2018 Winter Olympic Games are set to being in PyeongChang, South Korea on February 9, and when the teams hit the ice, four alumni of the Massachusetts Selects League will be wearing the red, white, and blue.

Ryan Donato, currently a junior at Harvard University, played for the Cape Cod Whalers 16U team during the 2011-12 season and the 18U team from 2012 to 2014. The Boston Bruins second-round draft pick currently leads all NCAA Division I players in goals with 21.

“I’m looking forward to the whole experience and being with a lot of guys who have been around the world playing hockey. They’re veterans and they know the game better than anybody else, so I’ll be able to learn from them and put it into my own game,” said Donato.

Broc Little was a member of the Boston Jr. Bruins 18U team that won the 2006 USA Hockey National Championship before matriculating at Yale University. After graduating, he made his way to Sweden and led the Allsvenskan league in goals and total points during the 2011-12 season. A call-up to the top-level Swedish Hockey League produced similar results, as he won the SHL’s goal scoring title in the 2014-15 season. He currently plays for HC Davos (Switzerland) and sits tied for third in the league with 21 goals.

Chris Bourque, the 2015-16 AHL Most Valuable Player and the league’s current leader in assists and total points, played for the Boston Jr. Bruins when they won their first national championship in 2004 and led the tournament in scoring, notching 22 points in six games. Since then, Bourque’s career included stops in the National Hockey League, Kontinental Hockey League, and Swiss National League, along with his 705 games in the AHL, during which he ran up a total of 684 points (231 goals, 453 assists.)

Noah Welch played for the Eastern Mass Senators and 495 Stars while at the St. Sebastian’s School prior to enrolling at Harvard University. After capping off an impressive career with the Crimson that included multiple awards including a First Team All-American award as a senior in 2005, he played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Atlanta Thrashers. Since 2011, he has played in the Swedish Hockey League, where he currently mans the blue line for the Vaxjo Lakers.

The Mass Select League extends its congratulations to the selected players and wishes them the best of luck on their quest for the gold medal.
