NHLers like Larkin get game on in local summer league
Date: Jul 16, 2018

The drought is over. Ushered in with spectators throwing their hats on the ice and Northeastern skaters piling on top of each other in celebration, the Huskies won their first Beanpot championship in 30 years – their fifth overall – with an emphatic 5-2 win over Boston University.
Boston University was the early aggressor, scoring a goal in the opening three minutes, which was later overturned for goalie interference, and the Terriers took a 1-0 lead roughly five minutes later as Logan Cockerill's pass was deflected into the net by NU goalie Cayden Primeau. But the Huskies responded two minutes later with a goal of their own as Nolan Stevens scored on a power play.
It was the first of three power plays for Northeastern and the team capitalized with a goal each time. The Huskies' never trailed again after Stevens' goal.
Adam Gaudette recorded his second-career hat trick, capped off by an empty-netter with 30 seconds left that sparked the reception of hats being thrown onto the ice by Northeastern fans. BU's decision to pull goalie Jake Oettinger in the waning minutes of the third period had paid off in the short-term as Shane Bowers scored a goal with 3:40 remaining when the Terriers had an extra skater on the ice. Gaudette's third goal ensured the NU victory and signaled that for the first time since 1988, the Huskies can take home the Beanpot championship and claim the title of the best college hockey team in greater Boston.
