In the final game of the season, the St. Catharines Falcons have clinched second place in the GOJHL Golden Horseshoe Conference.
The Falcons dispatched the home team Niagara Falls Canucks by a score of 4-2 Sunday afternoon, despite going scoreless on the power-play through five opportunities at the Gale Centre.
Goaltender Owen Savory stopped 32 of 34 shots against, who officially ended the regular season as the GOJHL leader in wins and save percentage. Niagara Falls goalie Zach Moore allowed four goals on 32 shots against.
St. Catharines opened the scoring in the first period with a shorthanded goal from defenseman Matt Busby. Niagara Falls answered shortly after with a power-play goal from Matthew Thorpe. The Canucks scored two goals with the extra man on seven opportunities. Neither team scored in the second period.
Forward Kyle West scored the go-ahead goal for the Falcons early in the third period. Assistant captain Michael Davies extended the Falcons lead with a breakaway goal before forward Noah Perlic added the final Falcons goal. Thorpe scored his second late in the game to bring the Canucks within two goals.
St. Catharines ends the year as the most penalized team in the GOJHL with 1433 total minutes in infractions.
The Falcons will play either the Welland Canadians or Pelham Panthers in the first round of the Golden Horseshoe playoffs. Game times and opponent will be announced later this week.
