The St. Catharines Falcons defeated the Welland Canadians 3-1 Sunday afternoon for their 12th straight win.

Sunday afternoon's match in Welland marked the back-half of a home-and-home between the two clubs. Falcons goaltender Owen Savory lead the way with 25 stops on 26 shots against. Falcons General Manager and Coach Frank Girhiny likes what saw from his goaltender.

"We played a very sound game," said Girhiny. "It was a total team effort. Savory made some big saves when we needed it."

Recently acquired forward Kyle West opened the scoring for the Falcons in the first period, firing a shot past Canadians goalie Jukka Schotter. Schotter made 41 saves on 44 shots.

St. Catharines leading scorer Lucas Smilsky added a goal in the second period before forward Carson Edwardson extended the Falcons lead to three. Falcons captain Tyler MacArthur dropped his gloves for a rare fighting major penalty with Welland skater Nick Bisser.

"I thought they started to take liberties on us and I really liked our push-back," said Girhiny. "Give Welland credit though they worked really hard these last two games."

Former-Falcon Josh Chiarot would bring the Canadians within two goals with a late goal in the third period. Chiarot's goal proved to be the final of the match. Rookie Jaleel Adams would also earn a fighting penalty against Welland defenseman Erik Nelson.

The Falcons once again were penalized for a large portion of the game, killing nine penalties in the match. Their power-play was unsuccessful going scoreless on five opportunities.

St. Catharines is back in action on February 9th at 7 p.m., when they take on the Pelham Panthers at home.
