First weekend back from break: 1 win, 2 losses

After a long winter break, Villanova returned to the ice this past weekend with 3 games against NYU, University at Buffalo, and Courtland.

On Friday night, Villanova hosted NYU at Hatfield Ice. During the first two periods, NYU established a 5-0 lead over Villanova.

NYU locked in 3 more goals at the beginning of the third. Villanova’s Matthew Mullen buried a goal during the second half of the period, followed by 2 more NYU goals. The last goal of the game was scored short handed by Jack Skaggs of Villanova.

    The final score of the game was 10-2 for NYU.

    On Saturday, the team left on a roadtrip to New York to play Buffalo at Northtown Center at Amherst.

    The only goal of the first period was scored off a beautiful faceoff play by Villanova’s caption, Jack Skaggs. Buffalo began the second period by scoring 3 goals, and Villanova ended the period with a goal by Richie Halevy. Buffalo scored another 3 goals in the third period, finishing with a 6-2 win over Villanova.

    Sunday afternoon brought Villanova their win of the weekend. The IceCats played SUNY Cortland at Alumni Arena in New York.

    Troy Donahue scored after 28 seconds of game play, giving Villanova a 1-0 lead right off the bat. There were no more goals during the first period.

    Cortland opened the second period with 2 goals. Villanova reclaimed their lead, scoring 3 goals by James Logan, Richie Halevy, and Christopher Parisi.

    Each team scored another goal in the third period. Villanova’s empty net goal was scored by Marc Trotta. The final score of the game was a 5-3 win for Villanova.

    Next weekend, Villanova will face George Washington University at Hatfield Ice at 7:40 p.m. Come out and cheer the IceCats on!
