MARK IT IN THE BOOKS
Date: Dec 3, 2018

There were a lot of story lines coming into the game on Sunday between the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University and the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University. The first one, and most important one, was the Warriors ability to clinch a playoff spot and feel comfortable in the #2 seed in the American East Division just behind Bucknell. The second big story line would be the fact that ESU would also like to snap a 19 game losing streak to the team that wears Alvernia on their chest (whether they identify as crusaders or golden wolves). The Warriors had not beaten Alvernia since their inaugural season of 2005-2006 so this senior class would be looking to become the first to graduate with a win under their belt. And the Warriors would not make it easy on themselves in this contest as it was their first of the new semester although it would not look like it as the Warriors would jump out to a quick 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Steve Quimby just 1:22 into the first period thanks to an assist from Josh Barber. The rest of the period would be a back and forth affair with the Warriors aiding the Golden Wolves by taking three penalties and they would finally get burned on the third one, giving up a powerplay goal with just 2:37 left in the period. But it would only take the Warriors 37 seconds to bounce back and secure a lead before the first intermission thanks to Henry Mead's 26th goal of the season.
The Warriors would enter the second period looking to extend their lead so that they can have some breathing room and once again they would strike early thanks to a wicked wrister from Steve Quimby to the top left corner beating the Alvernia netminder. The Warriors would then start to control the majority of the play, keeping the puck in the Alvernia zone and tiring out their opponent. But the Golden Wolves would get the next tally as a loose rebound would kick out in front for a lucky wolf to pounce on and throw into the open net to make the score 3-2. The score would stay that way until with 3 minutes left the Warriors would get another goal from Henry Mead to push the lead to 4-2 going into the 3rd period, assists from Steve Quimby and Sean McGinley.
The third period would be one dominated by the Warriors as their opponent started to tire out after playing their second game of the weekend. The ice would be tilted towards the Alvernia zone but it would be the Golden Wolves who would score first in the third period to cut the lead down to 1 once again with 14 minutes left in the game. Now things would tighten up as ESU was looking to regain the two goal lead while not giving one up and Alvernia was pushing to tie the game up once again. This tug of war would go on for about 7 minutes before ESU would regain their two goal lead at 5-3 thanks to a goal from freshman Sean McGinley. The Warriors would add another insurance goal 2 minutes later from Henry Mead, completing his hat trick, to give the Warriors the 6-3 win.
