The St. Catharines Falcons have made several trades in advance of the GOJHL January 10th Trade Deadline.
Starting on January 2nd, the Falcons sent forward Tanner Ferreira and defenseman Dante Copps, both 20-year-old veterans of the Jr. B club to their rival Niagara Falls Canucks. St. Catharines acquired defenseman Tanner Brown, 18, in the exchange. Brown is a native of Fenwick, Ont. and has spent the last two seasons with the Canucks.
Later that day, the Falcons signed big-body forward Liam Dunda, 20, originally from Bellevue, Washington. Dunda spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, playing with the Plymouth Whalers, Owen Sound Attack and Sudbury Wolves. This season, Dunda played 33 games with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and tallied 13 points. The 6’4” winger was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in 2015.
On January 3rd, the Falcons traded young forward Evan Miller, 17, to the Fort Erie Meteors in exchange for the playing rights of defenseman Andrew Somerville, 18. Somerville is a native of St. Catharines and has spent parts of the last two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with stints for both the Niagara Ice Dogs and Guelph Storm. As a 16-year-old, Somerville lead the Jr. C NDJCHL in rookie scoring as a defenseman.
Less than a week later, the Falcons acquired out-of-conference forwards Dante Felicetti, 19, and Kyle West, 19, from the Brantford 99ers. West played 45 games as a member of the OHL Guelph Storm in 2015-16 and 5 games with the QMJHL Charlottetown Islanders this season. Felicetti is in his first year in the GOJHL, playing previously with the Burlington Cougars of the OJHL.
Finally, the Falcons traded centreman Nathan Smilsky to the Alliston Hornets of the Junior C PJHL for a development fee.
St. Catharines is excited to welcome Brown, Dunda, Somerville, Felicetti and West to the team and look forward to showcasing the new-look roster on January 12th at home against the Buffalo Regals.
