Minor Midget Trappers golden in Waterloo

The North Bay Minor Midget AAA Trappers edged the Huron Perth Lakers 2-1 to win the Waterloo Gold Puck championship, Sunday.

The Trappers won six straight for the gold medal, including four one-goal victories.

North Bay slipped by the Brampton 45's 3-2 in the semifinal Sunday morning. On Saturday, the Trappers beat Perth 3-1 and Kitchener Jr. Rangers 3-2.

They began the tourney with a 4-1 victory over the host Waterloo Wolves on Friday, followed by a 6-5 win over the Windsor Jr. Spitfires.

North Bay's Major Midget AAA Trappers also had a solid weekend at the Gold Puck before bowing out in the semifinals 5-1 to the eventual champion Waterloo Wolves team.

The Major Trappers started the tourney Friday with a 9-1 bombing of the Kitchener Jr. Rangers and then beat the Kapuskasing Flyers 4-1 that night. On Saturday, the Trappers blanked the Quinte Red Devils 3-0 and tied the Central Ontario Wolves 2-2.

Waterloo beat the Markham Waxers 5-4 in the final. Markham had dropped the Oakville Rangers 3-1 in their semifinal.
