2023 Raiders Golf Tournament
Date: Jun 12, 2023
The Wellington Dukes have been a busy team past the 60-minute threshold this season and the overtime action continued Sunday afternoon at Essroc Arena.
Keegan Ferguson’s goal 1:56 into overtime proved to be the decider in the Dukes’ third O.T. victory of the year, 3-2 over the visiting St. Michael’s Buzzers.
The game turned first to the Buzzers side on a tally from Dylan Jackson, one half of the dynamic Jackson twin duo. James Gibbins and Liam Beaudoin assisted on the goal at 13:05. That would be the only goal scored in the first period, controlled mostly by the Dukes. Wellington outshot St. Mike’s 11-7.
Buzzers’ goaltender Jack Watson was solid again in period two in limiting the Dukes offence, but Wellington’s crafty forwards still found a way to scratch the scoresheet. Teddy McGeen’s picked up where he left off from his five-point Friday night with his 16th goal of the year at 4:49 from Mitchell Martan and Colin Doyle. The Dukes once again outshot the Buzzers 11-7.

Ferguson took a pass from Ben Evans after some great cycle work inside St. Mike’s territory and fired a low shot shortside past Watson for the win.
Pierce Nelson recorded the win in his first start in well over a month. Final shots favoured Wellington 31-21.
The Dukes improve to 17-4-3-4 and strengthen their hold on the Northeast Conference. They also move into a tie with the Oakville Blades with 41 points at the top of the OJHL.
The Dukes are off until Friday night, when they travel half-an-hour down the road to Quinte West to face the Trenton Golden Hawks at 8 p.m.
