Over Veteran’s Day weekend, Villanova played in the ACHA Showcase at Warwick Ice Arena, but the IceCats were unable to bring home a win.

Friday night’s game was against West Virginia University. Villanova’s Troy Donahue scored the first goal about 9 minutes into the first period. West Virginia scored 4 minutes later, wrapping up the period with a 1-1 tie.

During the second period, West Virginia scored 2 goals about halfway through the period. There was no more scoring in the game, and Villanova fell 3-1.

The IceCats took on William Paterson University Saturday afternoon. The first period ended with a score of 1-1, with the first goal scored by Villanova’s George Clark about 5 minutes into the period.

Jack Skaggs put Villanova in the lead by scoring a goal 13 seconds into the second period. William Paterson again tied up the game about halfway through the period, making the score 2-2. Villanova was able to finish the second with a lead thanks to George Clark’s goal near the end of the period.

During the third period, William Paterson scored 7 goals and Villanova only 1 goal, ending the game with a 9-4 loss for the IceCats.

Sunday’s game against Cornell University started off well for Villanova, with 2 goals scored by Richie Halevy and Jack Skaggs. Cornell buried one goal before the end of the period.

Cornell took the lead with 4 goals near the end of the second period. About halfway through the third period, Villanova scored the last goal of the game, unable to catch Cornell’s lead. The final score of the game was a 5-3 Villanova loss.

“We need to be better once we earn that lead, to have the killer instinct to not give up,” said Kenny Orlando, head coach of Villanova. “That’s what it will take to start winning games again.”

The IceCats are hoping to bring home a win this weekend with an away league game against Navy at McMullen Ice Center at 7:30 p.m. Let’s go Nova!
