THE SHOW MUST GO ON

Date:  Source: ESU Ice Hockey

The Warriors had a big road test on Saturday night against the Alvernia Golden Wolves at the Body Zone in Reading, PA. ESU was looking to stay in first place in the division as Alvernia was looking to climb out of the cellar in the American East Division. The first period would go in favor of the latter as they were able to build a 3-1 lead in front of a raucous home crowd. The Warriors would head into the first intermission looking to change the momentum of the game and silence the crowd. In the first 5 minutes of the 2nd period, they were able to do just that, The first couple of shifts were mostly in the Alvernia defensive zone with the Warriors putting constant pressure on and catching the Golden Wolves with tired players at the end of shifts. They would then be rewarded with a goal from Senior Josh Barber off of a deflection in front from an Alvernia defenseman. It looked like this game was going to change in a big way but then the referees decided to pull out their whistles and kill all the momentum the Warriors had built up. Alvernia was given two 5 on 3 powerplays in the second period, one including a 5 minute major penalty. Luckily the Warriors were able to kill them off thanks to the penalty kill unit and strong goaltending from Josh Seder when they needed to be bailed out. the score would remain 3-2 at the end of the 2nd period. The third period would be just like the second, the Warriors would put all of the pressure on the Alvernia net, then would have multiple penalties called on them in succession, and then would be killing off penalties for long periods of time. ESU was able to put a flurry of chances on net at the end of the game, just missing on a couple of rebounds out front, but none would find the back of the twine and ESU would suffer another loss to Alvernia. The loss brings the Warriors' overall record to 8-2-2 and are now 4-2-1 in the division, putting them in a tie for 1st place with Bucknell and only a point ahead of Rutgers in third place, and 3 points ahead of Widener in 4th place.
