Villanova Defeats PSU Berks in Back-to-Back Games

Maintaining their league-game strength, Villanova defeated Penn State Berks this weekend in back-to-back games. Villanova hosted first with Saturday night’s game at Hatfield Ice.

PSU Berks scored the first goal about 10 minutes into the first period. Villanova responded with two goals in one minute by captain Jack Skaggs. Within the last 5 seconds of the period, PSU Berks put in a goal and tied up the game.

The second period also ended with a tie game, as each team scored once within the period. PSU Berks scored first, followed by Villanova’s Jim Conway.

Villanova broke the tie of the game with a goal scored by Troy Donahue about 2 minutes into the third period. PSU Berks again tied the game 4-4 during the first half of the period. The next two goals were scored by Villanova’s Troy Donahue and Junmo Kim. PSU Berks scored their last goal before the end of game play, ending the game with a 6-5 win for Villanova.

PSU Berks had 28 shots on goals and Villanova had 44. John Persichilli was in net for Villanova on Saturday. “Perch does a great job staying calm and composed in the net,” said Kenny Orlando, head coach of Villanova.

On Sunday afternoon, Villanova traveled to The Body Zone, PSU Berks’s home rink.

Villanova established a 2-goal lead, scored by Timothy Matthews and Jack Skaggs,  within the first 10 minutes of the game. Attempting a comeback, PSU Berks scored a goal about 15 into the period. The last goal of the period was Villanova’s, scored by Jack Skaggs.

There was no scoring in the second period. The only goal of the third period belonged to Villanova’s Marc Trotta about 7 minutes into the period.

Villanova again triumphed over PSU Berks with a final score of 4-1, continuing their league-game win streak which has now reached 5-0.

Villanova had 45 shots on goal and PSU Berks had 34 shots on Villanova’s goalie Nathaniel Brose. “Both goalies locked it down for us,” Orlando said. “Brose is very aggressive, but it's been working in his favor.”
