Foxboro, MA- Kevin MacKay scored twice and Matt Beniers notched a goal and two assists to lead the Cape Cod Whalers to a 6-1 victory over the Boston Jr. Bruins in Massachusetts Selects League 16U play.

Goaltenders Drew Commesso and Luke Streckenbach kept the game scoreless for the first half of the opening period until Brendan Dumas sent a cross-ice pass to Terrence Concannon, who buried the puck.

McKay made it 2-0 with 4:51 on the clock when he scored from Beniers and Jake Hughes.

Less than thirty seconds later, Peter Kramer scored from Dumas to give the Whalers a three-goal lead.

Commesso and Streckenbach kept the teams off the board in the second period until Beniers scored with 1:05 on the clock. The Bruins, however, answered back almost immediately, as Colman Benson pounced on Matt Keohane’s rebound and put the team on the board. Joe Noone also assisted on the play.

McKay blasted a shot from the point with an assist by Ryan McDermott to put the Whalers up 5-1 with 3:22 to go in regulation, and Ian Moore rounded out the scoring with an assist from Beniers with 1:39 to play.

The Cape Cod Whalers and Boston Jr. Bruins will await their placements in the Massachusetts 16U State Tournament next weekend.
