WARRIORS ARE TRUE KINGS OF THE JUNGLE

Date:  Source: ESU Ice Hockey

This weekend the Warriors had one game on the docket for this past weekend and it was a home contest against the Widener Pride. Widener came into the game fresh off of a win against Catholic University for their first league game of the season by a score of 15-3. Both teams would come out a bit sluggish and sloppy due to the early morning start at the Rev. And although Widener controlled most of the play for the 1st period, it was the Warriors who were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the last 5 minutes of the period thanks to goals from Henry Mead and Travis Moore. But the Pride would finally reap the benefits of their strong play by finally getting a couple of shots past goaltender Josh Seder in the 2nd period thanks to a pair of goals by Zachary Yeager, both assisted by Patrick Stermel. The score now stood at 2-2 but it wouldn't for long as ESU would regain the lead thanks to a strong rush and finish on the wrap around by Travis "Matteau! Matteau! Matteau!" Moore only a minute after the Pride had tied the game. The score would hold at 3-2 until the end of the period and heading into the third and final stanza. ESU was 20 minutes away from getting another W, their fourth in a row, and jumping up to 1st place in the American Conference. But the Warriors would come out for the 3rd period a man down and very flat, not ready to match the intensity from a hungry Widener team, as the Pride would tie the game at 3 just 13 seconds into the period. And the Warriors would continue to get outplayed for the next three minutes and would literally watch Widener get their first lead of the game at 4-3 with 16:30 left in the game. The Warriors would need a timeout and a "colorful" motivational speech from their coach to turn things around as they would only need 50 seconds to tie the game back up thanks to another goal from Henry Mead. Then it would take almost exactly three more minutes for ESU to regain the lead at 5-4 thanks to a nice pass from Henry Mead to Sean McGinley off of a 2 on 1 rush on the Widener net. The Pride would but up a valiant effort for the rest of the game to get the equalizer once again but they came up just short, barely missing on an opportunity in the waning seconds. The win moves the Warriors overall record to 8-1-2 and their league record to 4-1-1. Widener falls to 2-8-0 on the season and 1-3-0 in the league.

Game Notes: Sean McGinley, Travis Moore and Henry Mead combine for 5G and 4A, Ray Seakan - 2A

Player of the Game: Josh Seder - 47 saves on 51 shots

Next weekend the Warriors will still think it is Halloween when they return to their house of horrors in Reading, Pa. The will take on Alvernia on Saturday night at the Body Zone. The new look Golden Wolves come into the game with a 6-5-1 overall record and a 1-3-0 record in the league. Alvernia will also square off with Widener twice in the week on Wednesday night and Sunday afternoon. This contest will go a long way in helping out ESU's playoff hopes as they look to create some space from the teams out of the picture. Puck drop is set for 8:00pm.
