More than 30 St. Catharines Falcons alumni were in attendance at the Falcons 4-1 win over the Caledonia Corvairs Friday night celebrating the hockey club’s 50th anniversary season.
The former-Falcons took part in a special ceremony honouring alumni from the club’s first decade of teams ranging from 1968-1977. The game marked the second ceremonial home game of the Falcons 50th Anniversary season, having opened the year with a special appearance from St. Catharines mayor Walter Sendzik.
The official puck drop for Friday’s game honoured first Falcon Captain Fred LaSelva, Founding Director Earl McNeil and current Falcon President Jim McConnell.
Falcons General Manager Frank Girhiny was in attendance for the game and reflected on the history of the franchise.
"The St. Catharines Falcons have a rich tradition which whomever has been a part of bleeds not just red but Falcons red," said Girhiny. "We are proud of our tradition and the team is quite thrilled and honoured to see alumni return as we carry the torch."
St. Catharines will look to honour other decades of players later in the season.
