ESU TALLIES FIRST LEAGUE WIN

Date:  Source: ESU Ice Hockey

This past Saturday the Warriors were looking to even up their league record at 1-1 with a road trip to Hershey Park Arena to take on Shippensburg University. And they came out in the first period very hungry, looking to put away a young and slumping team very early before they could gain some momentum. It started with a pair of goals for the captain, Ray Seakan, at the 13:49 and 12:40 mark of the 1st period. Both of them coming off of end to end rushes, one finished with silky hands while the other was a quick wrister from the high slot. ESU would then score two goals 50 seconds apart at the 8:59 and 8:09 mark of the period thanks to forwards Josh Barber and Henry Mead. The Warriors would continue to dominate the first period and then finally finish it off with a tally from Steve Quimby with only 54 seconds left to give the team a 5-0 lead before the 2nd period started.

The Warriors would not stop there either as Steve Quimby was having his own flu game going into the 2nd period as he would tally two more goals 8 minutes into the 2nd period, completing the natural hat trick. ESU would get two more goals in the period from freshman Sean McGinley, the first one chasing Shippensburg goalie Katrina Homovich, and heading into the 3rd period with a 9-0 lead. All of the momentum and play would not carry over into the 3rd period though as the Warriors would just coast their way through the final 20 minute stanza of this game as they would lose the shutout 3 minutes into the third period thanks to a goal from Shippensburg sophomore Lance O'Rourke. Chances would be traded here and there up till midway through the third until both teams would become content with the score and just let the time run out on this one as the fog would build up in the arena. ESU would end this one with a 9-1 victory and head home a happy bunch.

Game Notes: Josh Seder - 24 saves on 25 shots, Barber, McGinley and Mead with 3 points each

Player of the Game: Steve "Michael Jordan" Quimby with the natural hat trick
