ESU SPLITS WEEKEND GAMES

The Warriors started off the weekend very well, moving their record to 2-0 after a 10-1 victory over Dickinson College at Revolution Ice Center on Saturday night. The team got off to a slow start but was able to jump out to a 3-0 lead on the Red Devils after a powerplay goal from Steve Quimby. Dickinson would get on the board late in the first to make it a 3-1 game but that would be as close as it would get for the rest of the night. The Dickinson goaltender was able to hold off a barrage of shots for two periods, holding ESU to only 5 goals, but in the 3rd period they would finally break through with a 5 goal outburst to cruise to a 10-1 victory.

Game Notes: Josh Seder - 24 saves on 25 shots, 2G each for McGinley, Mead, Zarzecki, and Quimby.

Player of the Game: Steve Quimby - 4 points

On Sunday the Warriors would face a much tougher opponent in their first league game of the season against PSU Harrisburg at Twin Ponds. The Lions would be coming off a 5-2 loss to Bucknell at home the night before in their first league game so they were hungry for a win. The first period would start off with both teams trading goals and ending in a 2-2 score. It would be the 2nd period where PSU Harrisburg would seize the momentum and take a 2 goal lead into the 3rd period. They were able to do it thanks to many powerplay opportunities where they did not score but controlled the play for minutes at a time. The Warriors would need to come out strong in the 3rd period if they were going to get back in this game. Unfortunately it would be a seeing eye puck from the slot that would squeak its way through everyone and into the back of the ESU net to give the Lions a 6-3 lead about 5 minutes into the 3rd period. ESU would answer with a goal of their own to cut the lead back down to 2 before the Lions would stretch it out to 8-5 with about 10 minutes left in the game. It would be at this point when the Warriors would mount their comeback to tie the game up before the clock struck 0. They would be assisted by a PSU penalty for which they would capitalize on early and make it an 8-6 game with about 8 minutes left. Then, only a couple of minutes later, Henry Mead would beat the opposing defender 1 on 1 to the right side and nip the top right corner over the goalies glove to cut the lead to only 1 with about 5 minutes left in the game and all of the momentum on the Warriors side. The Warriors would get plenty of more chances at the net, trying to tie the game at 8 but nothing would get through and their comeback would fall just short in the end.

The Warriors will get right back at it this weekend with a pair of away games on the schedule. They will travel to Sunbury Ice Rink to take on the DII Susquehanna RiverHawks on Saturday at 3:45pm. This will be the first matchup between the two schools on the ice. And then the Warriors make a trip to their house of horrors in Reading, Pa to the Body Zone to have a rematch of their opening game against Kutztown University. Puck drop is set for 3:00pm.
