Xavier Embracing Change as the Musketeers Gear Up for the 2017-2018 Season

Being a full-fledged member of the TSCHL is not the only major change that the Xavier Musketeers will have this year.  The Muskies also have a new place to call home with the recently completed locker room as well significant changes to the roster.  After what could be described as a bumpy ride last season due to the unexpected closing of the Gardens, the hope is to keep the focus on the ice this year and that begins with the returning of their top three scorers, their number one goalie and without question one of the best defensemen in the league in Brendan Dallas.

Xavier, coming off a 15-8 season last year including a 6-6 record against TSCHL teams, will be looking to replace a number of talented players who will not return for the 2017-18 campaign.  “I have no intention of falling back on the we are young excuse this year.  I understand there are lot of new faces but these guys can play” said Coach Driscoll.  “Players and the coaches share the responsibility for being ready to roll for the first game.”

“To me the emphasis is on culture.  We want guys who understand the importance of chemistry and selflessness.  I am excited because I think that’s what we have this year” assistant coach Sean Barnett offered.

Another big change for the Musketeers is the schedule.  The caliber of teams means their toughest schedule ever and a chance to play for a league championship.  One of the other big attractions to the TSCHL is the geographic makeup of the conference.  With the close proximity of the teams, it makes travel easier and provides much needed relief to both the budget and classroom interference.

Coach Driscoll summed it up this way, “If we can adopt coach Fleck’s ‘Row the Boat’ mantra, we are going to have lot of fun, compete like crazy and be better people because of this experience together.  I think we have the right guys in our boat.  Win or lose, I am excited for the journey this season.”
