Dirt Dawgs wrap up their record breaking season with a 9-2 loss to Worcester

LEOMINSTER, Mass. –  Despite breaking numerous record this season, the 2017 Wachusett Dirt Dawgs fall to the Worcester Bravehearts 9-2 in the first round of the FCBL Playoffs.

How it Happened

Worcester got the scoring  started in the top of the first inning, as Kevin Doody (Maine) crossed the plate on a routine groundout. In the fourth inning, the Bravehearts extended the lead as Doody had RBI single before Brett Coffel (St.Leo) hit a three run shot to left field. In the bottom half of the frame as Ryan Lever (UMass Amherst) drove in Andrew Bene (Shippensburg) from third.

Worcester added an insurance run in the top of the fifth, as Dante Ricciardi (St. Petersburg)  hit a homerun to center field, making it 6-1 Bravehearts. Coffel picked up another homerun in the top of the sixth pushing it to 7-1.

Kyle Cala (Wagner) hit the team's 72nd home of the season with a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the eighth. In the top of the ninth, the Bravehearts tacked on two runs.

Inside the Numbers

  • Billy Divito (Hartford) got the start for the Bravehearts, going 6.0 innings allowing just one run with nine strikeouts.

The Dirt Dawgs wrap up their record breaking season with the loss, the Bravehearts will head home as they take on the Brockton Rox tomorrow.
