LEOMINSTER, Mass. - Jack Gethings (Fairfield) four RBI's were not enough as the Pittsfield Suns come to Doyle Field and defeat the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs 13-6, and take sole possession of first place in the Western Division.
The Basics
Score: Pittsfield Suns 13, Wachusett Dirt Dawgs 6
Records: Dirt Dawgs (21-18) | Suns (22-19)
How it Happened
Gethings paced the Dawgs offense with four runs driven in after his 3-for-5 performance out of the leadoff spot.
Wachusett struck first in the bottom half of the third inning, as Gethings drove home Nolan Kessinger (UMass Amherst) on a single, making it 1-0 early on. Pittsfield tied the game up in the top of the fourth inning as Scott Holzwasser (Northeastern) doubled home Brandon Janofsky (Stony Brook). The Suns would take the lead in the top of the fifth inning, as Janofsky hit a three run shot, to give Pittsfield the 4-1 advantage.
After Holzwasser extended the visitor's lead with a two run homerun of his own in the top of the sixth, Kessinger would cross the plate on a Mike Coggeshall (Assumption) double. The Suns struck three more times in the seventh inning, but the Dawgs answered back with two of their own on another Gethings RBI single.
Pittsfield collected another three run inning in the eighth, but Joe Jumonville (Northern Ill) drove in Jake Byrnes (Assumption) with a single. The ninth saw both teams strike for one run, with the Dirt Dawgs coming way of a Gethings solo homerun to cap off his four RBI night.
