Wachusett can't overcome early deficit, drop 4-2 to Rox

BROCKTON, Mass. - The Dawgs cannot figure out the Brockton Rox, falling to the Eastern Division team for the third time this season, this time to a 4-2 score in Future Collegiate Baseball League action Sunday night at Campanelli Stadium.

How it Happened

Brockton got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, as Joe Silva (Concordia) laced a two out single to left field to plate one run. Wachusett got on the board after Zach Minnick (Campbell) ripped a one out triple to center field. He would cruise home when Kyle Cala (Wagner) singled to left field.

The Rox would regain the lead in the home half of the fifth as they scored two runs on two hits and a walk. The Dirt Dawgs threatened in the top of the sixth inning, as they loaded the bases with just one out, but could not push across a run. Brockton added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Aldirch De Jongh (Florida Atlantic) singled home Jake Rosen (Virginia Tech) from second.

In the top of the ninth, the Dirt Dawgs rallied with two outs in the frame. With two outs, Jack Gethings (Fairfield) doubled to left field. After Bradley Wood (Northern Ill) drew a walk, Mike Coggeshall (Assumption) singled home Gethings to make it 4-2. Wachusett would load the bases, but could not capitalize.

Inside the Numbers

  • This is the fourth straight loss for the Dawgs for the first time this season.

The Dirt Dawgs finish up their road trip tomorrow as they travel up to Lynn, Mass as they take on the North Shore Navigators, with first pitch schedule for 7:00pm. The Rox continue their four game home stand as they host the Martha's Vineyard Sharks with a 6:35pm start time.
