Dawgs rally falls short as the Blues win 9-7

BRISTOL, Conn. - For the first time all season, the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs loss their third straight game, as they cannot overcome the early deficit to the Blues and fall 9-7 in Western Division contest at Muzzy Field, Saturday night.

How it Happened

Mike Coggeshall (Assumption) went 3-for-5 at the dish for the Dawgs, while driving in one run. On the mound Benjamin Lodge (UMass Dartmouth) goes 3.2 innings, while allowing just one earned run.

Bristol got on the board in the home half of the first inning, as Cooper Mrowka (UMass Amherst) doubled to center field plating two runs, before getting thrown out at third for the second out of the inning.

The Dawgs tied the game up in the top of the third inning, as Jack Gethings (Fairfield) hit a solo homerun to right field. The second run would cross as Joe Jumonville (Northern Ill) scored on an error by the Blues shortstop. The Blues would regain the lead in the bottom half of the inning as they score five runs on four hits, and one error. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bristol plated one more run to push the lead to 8-2.

In the top half of the sixth inning the Dirt Dawgs rallied, John Stanton (SNHU) singled home Jeff Korte (Eastern Florida). Bradley Wood (Northern Ill) drove in a pair of runs on a single up the middle to bring Wachusett within three runs. The next inning, after Jumonville had a leadoff walk, he scored on a Zack Tower (Franklin Pierce) RBI single to draw within two. The Dawgs would get within one as, Coggeshall ripped a double to score Tower from first.

Bristol added an insurance run in the home half the seventh, as one run scored on a wild pitch.

Inside the Numbers

  • This is the first time this season that the Dawgs have lost three games in a row.

The Dirt Dawgs stick to the road, as they travel to Brockton tomorrow to take on the Rox with a 4:05pm first pitch. The Bristol Blues remain at Muzzy Field as they host the Martha Vineyard Sharks tomorrow, as the first pitch is scheduled for 4:00pm.
