Leafs break out to beat Cardinals

TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a 6-6 tie and go on to defeat the Hamilton Cardinals, 15-6, Wednesday night in Intercounty Baseball League action at Christie Pits.
Kyle Adoranti, who came on in the sixth in relief of Hamilton starter Jackson Jones, walked the bases loaded and then walked home a pair of runs when he also gave free passes to Connor Lewis and Dan Marra. Adoranti took the loss after giving up five runs on two hits in the inning. He walked five and didn't record a strikeout.
Justin Marra singled in two more runs and Tyler Hardie added another to make it 11-6.
The Leafs tacked on four more runs in the seventh inning – the big blow coming on a two-run double by Grant Tamane. Tamane finished with a pair of hits and three RBI for Toronto. Dan Marra, Justin Marra and Lewis also had two RBI each for the Leafs.
Zach Sloan, who came on in relief of starter Andrew Simonetti in the sixth, picked up the win on the mound for Toronto. Sloan scattered two hits without a walk or strikeout. Simonetti allowed six runs (three earned) on six hits with three strikeouts. He didn't issue a walk.
Nate Mastervick and Jon Dziumba, with a three-run blast in the fifth inning, homered in the loss for Hamilton.
The teams combined to make 11 errors.
