BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Madison scored on the power-play 2:36 into overtime to squeeze past the Bloomington Thunder, 2-1, on Saturday night at the Bloomington Coliseum.

Bloomington (23-26-4-3, 54 pts) outshot the Capitols by 27, but Madison goaltender Daniel Lebedeff stopped a career-high 45 shots to stymie the Thunder offense.

Madison drew a penalty 2:03 into the overtime session and capitalized on a 4-on-3 man advantage just 33 seconds later, as Alec Broetzman blasted a one-time slap shot past Thunder netminder Logan Halladay.

The Capitols (23-30-4, 50 pts) struck just 2:47 into the game to open the scoring, as Vincent De Mey found the back of the net on a 2-on-1 rush into the offensive zone to give Madison a 1-0 lead.

It took more than 40 minutes, but the Thunder responded with a power-play goal less than five minutes into the third period to tie the game at one. After a great hustle play to keep the puck in the zone, defenseman Wyatt Kalynuk (University of Wisconsin) then fed fellow alternate captain Cameron Burke (University of Notre Dame) in the high slot. Burke immediately set up Walker Duehr (Minnesota State Mankato) in the left circle, and he ripped a one-timer past Lebedeff at the 4:13 mark of the final period of regulation.

Bloomington limited Madison to just five shots on goal in the third period and had 13 shots of its own, but Lebedeff held strong to pick up the win.

The Thunder fired 21 shots in the second period alone, which tied the team season-high for most shots on goal in a single period. That shot total was just one shy of the team record of 22, something that has been accomplished only twice in team history.

Halladay (Merrimack College) finished with 17 saves on 19 shots.
