Cobras rout Icemen to close regular season

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. — The Butte Cobras are apparently peaking at the right time.

Petre Panacek registered a hat trick, while Jan Marcilis and Connor Wherrett each scored two goals Sunday to lead the Cobras to an 11-1 win over the Lake Tahoe Icemen. Stats

The victory closed the regular season for the Cobras (32-18-2), who will host a first-round playoff series. Butte finished the season in third place in the WSHL’s Northwest Division.

Panacek added a pair of assists in the game that saw Tyson Liverance, Ryan Meyer, Joel Johnson and Domini Hula also score goals.

Net minder Kyle Lane turned away 23 shots for the Cobras, who outshot the Icemen 53-24. Garrett Boehm scored the lone Lake Tahoe goal.

The dates and opponent for the Cobras’ playoff series have not been announced.
