he Butte Cobras overcame a 4-3 deficit at the end of the first period Saturday night to beat the Vancouver Rangers 9-4 in a WSHL game at the Butte Community Ice Center. Stats
With the win, the Cobras clinched third place in the WSHL’s Northwest Division.
The win als puts the Cobras on the verge of the three-game sweep of the Rangers. The teams will meet in the series finale at 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission to that game is free.
Jan Marcilis had a monster game, scoring four goals to lead the Cobras to the win.
Jacob Rudloff, Tyson Liverance, Ryan Meyer, Garrett Hodgson and Chance Aquino also scored for the Cobras.
Petr Panacek and Liverance each assisted on four goals, while Rudloff and Vaclav Beran registered two assists.
Donovan Tehan and Vladislav Polyashow each scored two goals for the Rangers (17-20-7).
Butte goalkeeper Henrik Kaspersen turned away 33 shots for the Cobras, who held a slim 39-37 shot advantage.
After Sunday’s game, the Cobras (22-17-2) close out the regular season with four games on the road next week. Butte will play a Southern Oregon on Thursday before beginning at three-game series at Lake Tahoe on Friday.
Butte will then host a playoff series against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
