CMU DIII defeats LTU 7-6 With Last Second Goal on Senior Night

MOUNT PLEASANT, MI- Bouncing back from a loss to Lawrence Tech University, Central Michigan Division III hockey team hosted the Blue Devils tonight on their home rink. The night began with our Senior night celebration as we say farewell to our five seniors Cody Ferris, Aaron Grady, Cal Jesko, Tyler Carr and Zach Carr. The Chippewas came up with a huge 7-6 win as a final show out for the 2017 seniors.

The first period quickly became electric as fans rolled in and the Chippewas took the ice with speed and the heart to show out for their seniors. Central was quick to get on the scoreboard and get the first goal of the night. Nick Wink made it 1-0. Lawrence Tech came back to get themselves on the scoreboard and made it 2-0. Making sure they ended the period on top, Chippewa Dylan Billins found the back of the net for the fifth time this season, making the score 3-1.

Central’s own Dalton Sutherland went top shelf to give the Chippewas their third goal of the night. The Blue Devils made sure to fight back as they shot in another goal making the score 3-2. Nick Wink brought his energy into the second period and found the back of the net yet again for his second goal of the game putting the score at 4-2. Lawrence Tech took a quick opportunity after a face off and slid a goal in, 4-3. With 2:31 on the clock, the Blue Devils tied up the game, 4-4. Within a minute, the Blue Devils took the lead, 5-4.

Central hit the ice strong and tied the game up with a goal by Nate Allgaier, 5-5. Within a minute later, LTU took the lead, 6-5. Chippewa Gregory Aliotta came up with a huge goal for Central as they tied up the game 6-6 with his first of the season. After both teams fought to finish the game on top, Nate Allgaier gets the game winner with 15 seconds left on the clock. Final score 7-6 as Central Michigan wins on senior night. Central now moves to 11-13 on the season as looks to face Adrian Gold on February third.
