Thursday Recap: Another OT winner at home

Christian Horn still may not be considered one of the core FireAntz players. Last evening against the Ice Bears was just his 7th game in a Fayetteville uniform after being picked up from the Pensacola Ice Flyers. But in those contests, he has made his presense felt with a lethal combination of speed and awareness.

It was Horn who scored the game winner just under a minute into the overtime period to give the FireAntz a 3-2 win in what was a very back and forth game between two team separated by just one place in the SPHL standings.

Joe Harcharik got the scoring started a little over the halfway point in the first period, when he was able to come into the zone late and beat goaltender Dylan Wells to stretch his points streak to 7 games. The game remained a back and forth battle featuring several close odd man rushes, but the men between the pipes stayed strong at each end.

With just under two minutes to go in the second period, former FireAntz Berkley Scott was able to pick up a juicy rebound in front of the net mouth and tie the game for Knoxville. In the third, the speed picked up for both teams and Christian Horn gave the FireAntz the lead once again off of a great steal and pass from Joe Kalisz behind the net.

Not wanting to leave quietly, Knoxville put together a rush of their own and Trevor Hertz made it a 2-2 game off of a good feed by Luke Sandler. Despite 62 shots between both teams in regulation the game headed to overtime, the third time the FireAntz had gone longer than 60 minutes at home.

Christian Horn didn't make the fans wait long, he stole a puck in the high slot and forced Dylan Wells to make the first move before firing the puck for the game winner. The FireAntz will rest for one day and then travel to Tennessee to take on the Ice Bears once again on January 28th. They will next play at home on February 3rd against Evansville.
