The club is thrilled to have the third Panella sibling playing for Abington Ice Hockey this year. Sophomore Sam Panella left hockey behind for martial arts a few years ago, but decided to return this season to play with Senior brother, Thomas Panella.
Sam's favorite class this year is English and his ideal career would be in design and engineering. He listens to R&B and Rap, particularly Yung Thug. Sam is well on his way to a black belt in karate and mixed martial arts (MMA). His training there will serve to enhance his performance on the ice.
Sam originally began playing hockey when he was ten years old. His favorite memory from his time on the ice was seeing another team driven to tears when his team ripped the championship win from their grasp. The teammate that Sam admires most is Senior Sean Murray because, "he's the only player who can score one handed and look good doing it," and he thinks the best thing about Abbypuck is Coach Bowler's "helpful quips." Sam's humble goal for the season was to get one point in the books, but it's only half way through the season and he has already tallied two.
Sam is a welcome addition to the club and we look forward to him growing into a leadership position in the years ahead
