Sophomore Mason Large has been with Abington Ice Hockey since his junior high days when he played with the inaugural Middle School team that made it to the playoffs against juggernaut Father Judge. Last year, as a freshman, Mason was in net for both ties and the only win of a tough season for the Ghosts.
Mason's favorite subject is math and he aspires to earn a degree in engineering from Northwestern, Princeton or University of Michigan. In addition to ice hockey, he likes to play roller hockey, showcasing his athletic diversity. He listens to Prog Rock and his favorite NHLer is Ducks' tender, John Gibson. His favorite quote should need no attribution, "You think you can win on talent alone? Gentlemen, you don't have enough talent to win on talent alone!"
Mason's favorite hockey memory was last spring when his club team won the Dave Kapral Tournament after he got a shut out and won a shoot out earning him tournament MVP. When asked who he admires on this year's squad, "I admire Andrew Profit. He's always working hard, always improving, and most importantly he always keeps a positive attitude off and on the ice, even if the game isn't going our way or the ref makes a few questionable calls." What impresses him most about the team as a whole? "The dedication that most of our players have is amazing, especially for some of the less skilled players. Having players continue to come back after losing seasons has been such a treat to see and I'm glad that this season we've finally been able to string a few w's together."
Mason is a rare find in the goalie realm in that he never blames the players in front of him and puts the weight of each goal scored by the other team on himself. This attitude is reflected in his personal goal for the season, which is to "become a better hockey player myself and help the team to win."
