Jr. Silvertips forward Caden Pattison is the latest featured with head coach Turner Stevenson.
Gillian Saunders: What really caught your eye as far as his game?
Turner Stevenson: "Just his consistency, he's been one of our hardest workers. He's been the most effort wise, the most consistent player we've had and he had a great weekend against a real hard competition. That was their most as far as overall competition; our stiffest test to this point in the year in Chicago, so I thought he had a great weekend effort wise."
GS: At what point before this season did you really see something like this coming or really even maybe in paractice before this week here?
TS: "When I saw him in practice at the beginning of the year. I didn't coach him last year seasonal wise when he was in Spokane. He's an Everett player that I've seen the last couple of years in the area, you know, and about his play and how hard he's worked and how to respond at the Spokane Chiefs training camp this past year. It's just a continuation of where he left off last year, he had a very successful year, and now that we've moved up to Everett, this is where he's from and he's closer to home, so when I was able to get him here, his effort in practice during the year has been terrific. He works so hard and he's still learning how to play the game the correct way as far as being in good positions rather than just overworking, and he has a tough time with that. He works too hard and I try to get him to work smart and he's definitely improved in that aspect since the beginning of the year so it's been really cool to see his gradual increase of play in those situations."
GS: Has he been helping his teammates?
TS: "Yes, absolutely. He's a great kid, he has a lot of fun and he jokes around with the guys a lot; he fits in perfectly. He was able to play with three or four of the kids here at bantam level so it's been a little easier transition for these younger kids, rather than just being one or two of them trying to fit in with the older guys. They look forward to him being a leader next year, as he makes everybody so comfortable and tries to include everybody, not just on the ice stuff, because that's the easy part, it's off the ice stuff, like being a good teammate and being a good player in the dressing room."
GS: What do you expect besides that now, moving ahead?
TS: "Well, also just seeing him get a few more points. He had a great couple games this last weekend that we just had where the pucks were starting to go in front of him more, and he's starting to get a little more points, and thats always a by-product. That's the toughest part trying to sell, especially for the younger players. The younger players have their parents base everything off points whether we're playing well, and that's not the case all of the time. It's playing the right way, and when you get in those situations, how hard you work. You start to get credit for a lot of that stuff so it's just getting him to believe that it's part of a process learning to play the right way. After this last weekend that we had he's starting to get a little more success on the scoresheet, and then he can start believing me that what i'm telling him is the truth, you know, and now it shows up for him, so it just keeps his confidence growing and growing."
