The Philadelphia Flyers Junior Hockey Team will be hosting their final weekend series of the 2016 calendar year, as the PAL Junior Islanders make their annual visit to the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees on Saturday 12/17 at 7PM and Sunday 12/18 at 1:30PM.
The Flyers had a bizarre home set with PAL last season with the first game resulting in a Flyers lopsided victory, with the heavy Flyers goal scoring being led by current forward Nick Polsinelli.
Polsinelli would record a natural hat trick in the contest, with his third tally making the score 7-0. The bizarreness was then to begin, as the PAL Junior Islanders would play the remaining 6:59 with six skaters and an empty net.
Nick Boyd, Devin Brink, and current PAL Junior Islander Dan Galvez each put a puck into that empty net, and the final score would be 10-1.
PAL Head Coach Ed Galiani’s goalie pulling message got through to his players, as the next day William Vizzo and Michael Gilroy scored a goal apiece within the first 3:32 of the game to get PAL off to a quick 2-0 lead.
Dylan Healey of the Flyers would answer one back before the end of the period as the teams would skate off for the first intermission with the score 2-1.
The Flyers would get the lone tally of the second stanza, as Ron Greco would score close to the midpoint to knot the game at 2.
The Flyers would register two more goals in the third, one from Polsinelli and the other by Healey for his second of the day, but it wouldn’t be enough, as Vizzo and Gilroy would each score another goal as well as get help from teammate Jake Marrello. The PAL Junior Islanders would get a series split with a 5-4 win.
Now onto the upcoming weekend series.
Players to Watch:
For the Flyers it’s Tristan Ramage. The 6’2” 210 pounder is leading the team in most points scored by a defenseman with 13 points and isn’t afraid to play physical. Look for Ramage to contribute on the scoresheet and use his big frame by any means necessary to keep the top PAL forwards off the board.
For the PAL Junior Islanders it’s forward Dan Galvez. Galvez is returning to play his old team for the first time at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone. Galvez produced 9 career points in 20 career games as a Flyer at the rink, so look for him to have a strong weekend performance and attempt to add to his career Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone point total.
