The Philadelphia Flyers Junior Hockey team will once again make the trip up north this weekend to New England, where they take on the South Shore Kings for a two game weekend series. Game 1 will take place on Saturday at 7:50pm, with Game 2 taking place on Sunday at 1:00pm, both at the Foxboro Sports Center.
The Flyers are coming off a difficult weekend on home ice where they dropped both games against the Syracuse Stars. Saturday night by a final of 4-1, and Sunday by an 11-5 final. The bright spot for the team this past weekend was Nick Polsinelli, who earned himself USPHL Premier Division Player of the Week with his performance on Sunday, where he scored four goals and earned an assist, taking part in all five goals the team scored against Syracuse. This was Polsinelli’s second Player of the Week honor this season, earning Player of the Week back in September for the first weekend of the season, after a stellar weekend against the same Syracuse team.
This weekend will be the third and fourth times the Flyers and Kings meet this season. So far the Flyers have been able to get the better of the Kings, coming away with wins in both games thus far. In the first meeting on October 7th, the Flyers won by a final of 4-1. They also took the November 12th matchup by a final of 6-1. Overall, the Flyers come in to the weekend with a 7-15-4 record in 9th Place in the Premier Division. South Shore, after splitting their weekend series last week with Connecticut, and falling on Wednesday night to Boston, come in with a 15-11-3 record, sitting in 4th Place in the Premier Division.
The Flyers appear to have South Shore’s number this season, and hopefully take notes from their previous matchups with South Shore to earn four very valuable points if they can win both games this weekend, to help them climb in the standings.
Players to Watch:
For the Flyers, watch for Polsinelli to continue his offensive production coming off his performance on Sunday. Despite the outcome of the game, it was without a doubt one of the most impressive performances of the season. Not to be lost in that game on Sunday was also the play of Connor Tierney. Tierney earned himself four assists in the game, all coming on the Polsinelli goals. Watch to see if Tierney can keep up that play heading into this weekend and help the team earn much needed wins.
For South Shore, John Laurito currently leads the team in points. But trailing right behind him are Max Sauve, Michael Grande and Kevin Hock, each with 23 points. These four are without a doubt the reason behind the Kings current fourth place ranking in the division standings. Laurito is currently a West Point recruit, and Hock is a University of Maine recruit. Keep an eye on all four of these players as they can be a lethal force offensively for the Kings.
