First Girls Divison of NHL Youth Cup Starts October 28

Date:  Source: NHL Youth Cup

The first girls' division of the NHL Youth Cup will be hosted this weekend, October 28-30 by the Pittsburgh Penguins and their affiliated youth program, Pittsburgh Penguins' Elite. All games will be played at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, the Official Training Facility and home of the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.

The teams represented will be the Detroit Red Wings 12U Little Caesars team, the St. Louis 12U Lady Blues, the 12U Pittsburgh Penguins Elite and Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Black teams.

It's exciting to see the growth of the game and be able to host 12U girls in Pittsburgh. "For the past 3 years, the Pittsburgh Penguins, along with the Philadelphia Flyers and their youth program Team Virtua, helped successfully launch the NHL Youth Cup for 9-14 year old boys. We're very pleased to expand this exciting tournament to include a girls' division and look forward to adding more girls' ages next year" said Matt Herr, executive director of hockey operations and programming for the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Manon Rheaume, still the only female to ever play in a NHL game, will be in attendance all weekend as she coaches the 12U Little Ceasrs squad.
