North Stars trip up Hitmen
Snider with goal, assist in 3-1 win
GENEVA, ILL. - The Traverse City North Stars made their windy city visit a split on Saturday, taking home two points with a 3-1 victory in the series finale at Fox Valley Rink in suburban Chicagoland.
Mitchell Snider (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars NAHL) scored the game's first goal 9:42 into the second period, and assisted on a power play tally from defenseman Chris Leibinger (Saginaw, MI/TC North Stars NAHL/Michigan Tech) 1:36 into the third period. Between those scores, Will Badner (Cadillac, MI/Motor City NAHL) levied an unassisted marker in the final minute of the second.
Chicago got on the board in the third period, but Zach Nagelvoort (Holland, MI/Kalamazoo NAHL) and the Stars defense closed up shop down the stretch. Nagelvoort made 25 saves to improve to 9-6-1 overall.
Snider, Leibinger, Kyle Froese (Traverse City, MI/TC Central HS), and Conor Durgan (Laingsburg, MI/Lansing Capitals U18) each drew an assist.
Traverse City (31-20-6) will wrap up the regular season at home next weekend, hosting Jamestown Friday-Sunday at Centre ICE Arena. The Stars are all but locked into the third playoff slot, and will likely face Kalamazoo in the first round of the postseason.
