The Orangeville Jr. B Northmen showed that winning the Ontario Jr. B Lacrosse League Championship was not a fluke as they took down the Green Gaels from the Durham Region again in the 2016 Founders' Cup Final by a score of 11-6.
Riley Thompson and Kyle Waters showed why they should have been selected to the tournament all-star team as they each recorded hat tricks in the game. Thompson ended up with 5 points on the night, while Waters - who followd in his late father's footsteps by winning a Founders' Cup title - bagged 6 points in the contest.
The story of the game was Daniel Tanner, who stepped up in the Seneca game on Thursday night after Rylan Hartley took a blast off the helmet and suffered a concussion. Tanner played with a calmness and confidence that isn't seen in many 19 year olds. His play through the weekend provided his team with the confidence that they could still capture the title on their home floor. "DT" saved his best play for the final as he came up with a number of spectacular saves in the second period which allowed his teammates to build a 3 goal advantage after 40 minutes. The team cruised to the victory and earned themselves the Canadian Jr. B Lacrosse Championship.
