RoadRunners wrap up final camp, set for stage for upcoming season

BENSENVILLE, Ill. - The Topeka RoadRunners finished off a busy weekend at The Edge Ice Arena just outside Chicago recently by finalizing the list of players who will arrive in Topeka in late August.

The RoadRunners, who are putting the final touches on preparation for the 2016-17 season in the NAHL South Division, will have approximately 30 players report to Topeka before the end of August. All of them are either returning veterans or were selected from the Chicago camp.

"We think that we will continue to trend of being a high-octane type of team," said RoadRunners coach Josh Kamrass. "We want to be entertaining to watch, of course, but we are always seeking out players who can play with a high compete level, and guys who can flat-out make plays. That's what we're all about."

The RoadRunners staff selected players from a pool of about 200 skaters and goaltenders at the Chicago camp. Some of those players were found at the Topeka pre-draft camp in Somerset, Wisc., and moved on to the Chicago camp.

"The Pre-Draft camp in Wisconsin proved again to be vital, as some of the players picked from that group moved on to Chicago, and will likely make our final roster," said Kamrass. "The process we have in place is a good one. We could easily be a bit younger this year, but it's a trend we certainly don't mind, Our staff has a great deal of patience, and it will pay off in the end."
