Blake Wood will play a big role this season with the Stampede as they gear up for the 2016-2017 season in the NA3HL. Wood, from Southlake, TX. Will bring size and stability to the Stampede defense this year. At a solid 5'11" 205 the 18 year old Wood is a stay at home defenseman that will help the Stampede back-end out tremenously. "We signed Blake at the "Global Vegas" showcase this spring and I was very impressed with his attitude and willingness to seize the opportunity to step into the junior level of play with us this season." stated coach Mike Beavis. "He's got decent size and the skills to play as well as the desire to succeed, I feel he will be a very coachable player that should develop into a solid guy for us." Beavis added.
Wood spent last season with the Texas Warriors AA program and was invited to quite a few camps over the summer including the Texas Brahmas, Amarillo Bulls in the NAHL and the Surrey Eagles open camp in the BCHL. The Stampede staff feel that Wood's stay at home style of play will help their D-zone and they will work with him to increase his offensive side of the puck as the season moves forward.
The Stampede will hit the ice for training camp officially on Monday August 29th for the 2016-2017 season. There are several returning players as well as some new faces that will suit up for the Stamp this year. The Stampede play out of the Morrisville Ice-Plex located on the campus of Morrisville State College home of the NCAA D-lll Morrisville Mustangs of the SUNYAC league.
The Stampede are still looking to fill a couple roster spots going into training camp. Interested players are urged to contact Stampede GM / Head Coach Mike Beavis @ mbeavis@syracusestampede.com for more information.
