TSCHL Finishes 2-1-2 in ACHA DII All-Star Classic
Date: Apr 16, 2019
We round out the 2015-2016 TSCHL Awards by announcing the league’s Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year. It should be no surprise to anybody that the University of Louisville Cardinals swept all 3 awards en route to their second straight TSCHL Tournament Championship and first ACHA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament appearance.
Yannis Soukas could be described as: 5’10” – 165, a Banff, Alberta native, a Louisville Cardinal, a freshman, a TSCHL Champion, the leading scorer in the TSCHL, and the leading scorer in the country. You can now add to that… TSCHL Rookie of the Year and TSCHL Most Valuable Player.
The freshman turned in one of the most impressive seasons in TSCHL history this past year – scoring 31 goals and tallying 52 assists during the regular season and TSCHL Tournament. Soukas added another goal and 2 assists in the ACHA DII Southeast Regional Tournament to bring his 2015-2016 point total to 86 (32G, 54A). The Banff, Alberta native led the country in points (86), assists (52), and powerplay assists (25) – not to mention, he finished second in the country in shorthanded goals (7) and shorthanded assists (3).
The sky is the limit for Soukas, who will return for his sophomore season this fall at Louisville.
Louisville’s Head Coach, Brian Graham, claimed his second consecutive TSCHL Coach of the Year award this season. This award is a true testament to his coaching ability as it is selected by his peers through a voting process only open to other head coaches in the conference. Graham led the Cardinals to a 22-13-2 record – including a 12-2-0 record against TSCHL opponents, a second consecutive TSCHL Tournament Championship, and the team’s first ever ACHA DII Southeast Regional Tournament appearance and win.
Addressing the league, Graham said, “I just wanted to say thank you to the entire league for voting for the University of Louisville program! I am honored by this award. I truly see it as an award that was earned by the players playing their hearts out for their teammates and I am very lucky to be a part of this team.”
