McAvoy, a pro-style right handed defenseman was taken in the first round (14th overall) by the Boston Bruins on Friday night.  The Long Beach, N.Y. native spent four seasons developing in the Gulls organization.  After two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program where he collected 29 points in 57 games, McAvoy recently completed his standout freshman season at Boston University recording 25 points on 3 goals and 22 assists in 37 games.

The following day, the Calgary Flames made Adam Fox the second Gulls alum taken in the 2016 Draft when they chose the high scoring defenseman in the third round with the 66th pick overall.  Fox spent seven years with the Gulls, most recently leading the Midget 16U team to a state title and National Championship appearance during the 2013-2014 season.  The following year, Fox joined McAvoy with the USNTDP where he went on to tally 39 points in 59 games over the past two seasons.  The Jericho, N.Y. native is committed to Harvard for the 2016-2017 season.

Mike Bracco, the Gulls President of Hockey Operations, coached both Mcavoy and Fox during their time with the organization. “It is great to see these two hard working and extremely skilled players recognized with their selections at the NHL Draft.” Bracco added, “From day one, Charlie and Adam understood the game at an elite level.  I am very proud to see NHL teams drafting players from Long Island.  Both of these young men were outstanding youth players and it was a privilege to coach kids with that kind of talent and character.”

Congratulations to Charlie and Adam on the Draft and all of their success and we wish them the best of luck on their bright futures!
