Bucketlist Checked Off with Wayne Gretzky Down Under
Date: Aug 9, 2016
TEG and TLA, in association with not-for-profit organisation STOPCONCUSSIONS, are excited to announce that two NHL star goaltenders, Scott Darling and Ben Scrivens, will be joining the 2016 Wayne Gretzky Ice Hockey Classic tour in Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.
Spectators will have the opportunity to watch the two goaltenders go head to head in the battle of the mask, with Darling joining team USA and Ben Scrivens named as part of the Canadian team.
In 2011, after being confronted by a number of challenges, Darling decided to turn his life and ice hockey career around.
With great determination, Darling fought back from battling to get a game in one of the lowest professional leagues in North America to joining the NHL in 2014. In 2015, Darling became the first Chicago Area player to win a Stanley Cup with his hometown Chicago Blackhawks.
Darling has an impressive reputation in the ice hockey world and also outside of it. Darling’s compassion for the community was recently acknowledged by the President Of The United States, Barack Obama, at an awards reception at the White House.
President Obama acknowledged and thanked Darling for being a Good Samaritan and helping a man down on his luck. “I think it’s the kind of good deed that bears repeating. A champion reached out to help somebody who could use a hand” President Obama said.
Ben Scrivens steps into the Canadian team as opposing goaltender. Scrivens currently plays for the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League, having also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers.
Scrivens has represented Canada in the Ice Hockey World Championships and has a superb goaltending record. In his career, Scrivens has had over 4,000 shots against him, with only 387 going through. In 2014 while playing for the Edmonton Oilers, Scrivens set the NHL record for most saves by a goaltender in a regular season shutout, stopping 59 shots from the San Jose Sharks during 60 minutes of regulation time.
Tickets are now available for purchase from www.ticketek.com.au/ihclassic . Anyone who purchases tickets to the series up until June 19 goes into the draw to win a trip for two to Sydney with Flights, accommodation and a meet and greet with Gretzky.
