JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks are pleased to announce the commitment of former Tomahawks assistant captain Drew Doyon to Division III Aurora University.

The Tomahawks acquired the Carmel, Ind., native in May 2015 from the Aberdeen Wings and the gritty forward contributed 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) and 181 penalty minutes in 49 games in 2015-16.

Doyon becomes the second Tomahawks player to commit to Aurora, as Logan Hudson announced his intentions to play for the Spartans in early May.

The Spartans compete in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

“Acquiring Drew prior to this past season turned out to be an integral part of our team's success,” Tomahawks head coach, Mike Letizia, said. “He was an ultimate leader and great presence for our club.”

Doyon was the recipient of the NAHL East Division Leadership award and his contributions, according to Letizia, had a positive effect on the team.

“His contributions to the team may not always have appeared in the box score or showed up on paper but it was no question appreciated by his teammates and coaches,” Letizia said. “I know that he has a bright future ahead of him on and off the ice and I look forward to following it proudly.”
