MIDGETS WIN 2016 Bob Harris Memorial Tournament

Date:  Source: Hamilton Cardinals

Over the May 13-15 week-end the Brantford Baseball Association hosted 16 midget teams from across Ontario in the first annual Bob Harris Memorial Tournament. Friday afternoon was perfect for baseball as the Hamilton Cardinals Midget team faced and defeated Simcoe 11-1. Saturday was a challenge with rain causing delays and the cold wind changing directions causing havoc in the outfield but the Cardinals tied Whitby 3-3 and defeated Barrie 9-3. The Cardinals completed the pool play first in their division. Sunday morning quarter finals found the Cardinals facing East York. In blizzard like conditions the Cardinals were victorious 11 – 1. Although the snow stopped, the wind was relentless during the Semi-Finals against Thornhill. After a 15 -3 win there was a brief space before games to defrost before facing the Mississauga Tigers in the Championship game.
Pitching into the cold, damp gale force winds the Cardinals battled to a 10 – 5 tournament victory.

The players and coaching staff would like to extend their thanks to parents and supporters for braving the crazy May weather in support of the team. As is typical in a team sport everyone contributed whether through a strong showing on the mound, an
intragyral pinch run or a basketball court ground rule triple. We lose together, we win together.
