Illinois pulls away in second, rolls over New Jersey, 6-0

Illinois scored three goals in the second period to pull away from New Jersey and clinch a 6-0 win.

Joseph Day had two goals to lead Illinois to victory. Day found the back of the net 12:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Illinois and again while 8:05 into the second to make the score 2-0 Illinois.

Illinois did not waste many scoring chances, needing only 14 shots to achieve its goal tally.

Illinois excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Illinois also got points from Jacob Rott, who also tallied two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Illinois included Ryan Hill and Jake Vennetti, who each put in one. More assists for Illinois came via Michael Altobelli, Colan Fitzgerald, Ryan Lieber, Mitchell Plonka, Charlie Burton, and Michael Graham, who each chipped in one and Stephen Bazianos and Danny OGrady, who contributed two each.

New Jersey could not produce up to its normal offensive output. New Jersey puts an average of 2.8 pucks into the net per game.

Illinois' Ryan Iaciancio stopped 16 shots out of the 16 that he faced. Illinois incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Matthew Rosario made eight saves for New Jersey on 14 shots. New Jersey incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
